Alcantarilha, Algarve, is home to the Amendoeira Golf Resort that sweeps across 270 hectares of nature. With two renowned 18-hole golf courses, one being the Faldo course, and a distinctive 9-hole course, it proudly claims the sole illuminated golf course in the country.
The course offers a captivating journey through its 18 holes, showcasing rocky terrain, winding watercourses, and scenic views of the Monchique mountains. Ancient olive trees and orange groves provide a unique backdrop. The challenging first hole sets the tone, followed by a downhill Par 5 on the fourth with water hazards. The inward nine presents further tests, including the tricky Par 5 13th hole. Holes 14 and 15 navigate rocky outcrops, while the 18th hole provides a grand finale. Experience strategic golfing on this picturesque course, where each swing tells a story of skill and precision.
Designed by retired professional golfer Sir Nick Faldo, this 6,578m Par 72 championship parkland course was developed with strategic play in mind. It requires precise positioning for players aiming to score well.
In 2007, the year before the course being built in 2008, Faldo visited the area and stated that “The land at Amendoeira is dramatic and the project has the potential to be a real talking point in the Algarve. With so many courses in the region, that’s no mean feat“.
The course provides a contemporary take on golfing tradition, where cacti and wild herbs replace typical heather, and spartan Holm oaks and ancient olive trees dominate instead of lush English woodland. Desert scrub bunkers made of crushed limestone replace sandy tracts, embodying classic strategic play principles.
The Faldo Course’s excellence was honoured with the title of’ Portugal’s Best Golf Course’ in 2016 by the esteemed World Golf Awards. Amidst the multitude of courses in the Algarve, it stands out as a noteworthy attraction, showcasing its distinctive design and challenges.
Looking down over the two championship golf courses stands the Amendoeira Clubhouse, a prominent focal point in the breathtaking landscape.
Offering ample changing rooms with cosy lounges, a well-stocked pro shop, and a lounge, bar, and restaurant with expansive outdoor terraces overlooking the courses, the clubhouse is most certainly the centre of the golfing world at the Amendoeira Golf Resort.
At The Garden Deck you can enjoy a daily buffet breakfast, while the restaurant offers breakfast, lunch, and à la carte dinner throughout the day.
