Atalaya New Course – Marbella

Atalaya New Course is one of two 18-hole golf courses at the Atalaya Golf and Country Club which is located in the popular upmarket resort of Marbella. If you are considering a golf holiday in Marbella, then we would highly recommend that you include the Atalaya New on your list of courses to play.

The New Course opened to the public in 1990 and was designed by Paul Krings, who has designed several top European courses.

Set in the hills above the Atalaya Old Course, the New Course (along with the old) is considered to be one of the finest courses on the coast.

The New Course presents an intriguing test of golf and rewards accuracy off the tee, rather than out and out length. Careful shot selection is also needed as a number of the fairways and greens feature slopes and elevation changes.

The location of the course makes way for a tranquil setting with beautiful panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, the blue Mediterranean Sea, and Gibraltar.

A buggy isn’t needed but as there are a few climbs one is recommended if playing in the warmer months.

When not playing golf the local areas offer plenty of entertainment and stunning beaches. The upmarket town of Marbella with its shops, bars, restaurants, beaches, and nightclubs is only an 18-minute drive away. The smaller but bustling resort of La Cala de Mijas is 30 minutes away and Malaga International Airport is just 45 minutes away by car.

Atalaya Golf Club Dress Code

The club does have a dress code that you are asked to adhere to. The following list is what is acceptable and not acceptable for you to wear.

Acceptable

• Men’s shirts must have collars and sleeves
• Tailored Shorts or long trousers
• Recognised Golf shoes

Not acceptable

• Football and rugby shirts, t-shirts and tracksuits
• Jeans, sports shorts, cargo shorts/ trousers
• Trainers, running shoes and flip-flops

Pro-Shop

The Pro-Shop offers a wide range of well-known brands, many of which include the club’s logo, giving you a chance to take home a reminder of your day at Atalaya.

The pro-shop staff offer a warm welcome and are available to share their professional knowledge should you need help when purchasing your golf equipment.

Atalaya Golf Academy

The Golf Academy is located just a short distance from the first tee.

It has a full-length driving range that has both natural grass bays and covered synthetic grass bays and a practice green with a chipping area that provides different lies and two practice bunkers.

Practice balls can be purchased from the coin-operated dispenser and for the more regular visitors, a prepaid key is available to buy at a discount and gives convenience.

Coaching is available for both individuals and groups and you can also choose to include video lessons in the well-equipped golf studio.

Ample free parking is also available.

Clubhouse/Restaurant

The Clubhouse with its large terrace offers panoramic views of the golf course and is home to the Ventanas de Atalaya Restaurant and Bar, which offers an extensive menu and wine list, as well as bar snacks.

Once you have finished your round of golf take advantage of the sun on the terrace and enjoy a drink and a bite to eat or cool down in the light and airy bar and restaurant. In the cooler months, the open fireplace is the perfect place to warm up and enjoy a post-round refreshment.

Handicaps

There is a maximum handicap policy at the Golf Club.

For the New Course, this is 28 for men and 36 for ladies before 11:00 am, and after 11:00 am players with a Green Card are allowed to play.

To encourage those new to the game of golf, after 4:00 pm beginners without a handicap are allowed to play the New Course.
