Mijas Lagos – Mijas, Costa del Sol

Mijas Lagos is the largest of two golf courses at Mijas Golf, the other being Los Olivos and was the first to open in 1976.

It was designed by the famous course designer Robert Trent Jones Sr. and measures 6,536 meters in length making it a par 72.

Redevelopment work was undertaken in 2012, which has made the course one of the best golf courses in Malaga and the Costa del Sol.

Its large flat undulating greens, wide fairways and soft slopes make it a challenge for golfers of all abilities and with nine lakes, you’re bound to lose a ball a two!

A friendly clubhouse sits between the two courses so no need to rush off after your game, pop in for a drink and maybe a bite to eat.

Mijas Golf Club is a public Golf Club, with a “pay and play” policy, but it also has a small number of yearly members, most of whom are residents at the adjoining urbanisations.

The course is located in the sought after area of Mijas Costa, a mere 20 minutes from Malaga – Costa del Sol Airport and 3.5km from the beaches. The popular towns of La Cala de Mijas and Fuengirola are also only ten minutes away by car, where you will be able to enjoy the many restaurants and bars that are on offer.

The Club House

The clubhouse is a traditional Andalusian farmhouse that is ideally located between the two golf courses, the perfect place to meet with fellow golfers both before and after your game.

It’s also home to The Restaurant where you can enjoy national as well as international cuisine. Malegian and Mediterranean dishes are served by a team of professional chefs, and the popular ‘Menu del Dia’ (Menu of the Day) is always available at a very attractive price.

The Restaurant also has a large terrace where you can sit and, not only enjoy the beautiful food on offer, but also the stunning countryside that surrounds Mijas Golf.

As well as The Restaurant, the clubhouse is where you will also find parking, changing rooms, showers, golf shop and rental lockers.

Featured Holes

Below we highlight two of the nicest holes on the course.

Hole #6

The par 4 sixth hole at Los Lagos is a real gem. Measuring 423 metres from the white tees, the hole has a stroke index of one, making it the toughest hole on the course.

Hole #5

The par 5 fifth hole is a monster measuring 580 metres. You will need to keep to the middle of the fairways on this hole and avoid the out of bounds down the left. You will also find water down the right protecting the green so a straight drive and accurate approach play is a must on this hole.

Getting There

Mijas Golf is easy to find and is located just a few minutes drive from Fuengirola and the N340 coast road..

From Marbella – If visiting the Mijas Los Lagos course and coming from the Marbella end of the coast you will need to use the N340 coast road driving in the direction of Malaga.

You will then need to take the turn off at the Parque Aquatico exit which is located just after the Miramar shopping centre which will be on your left.

Now take the exit for Fuengirola/Coin and head inland towards the mountains via the MA7053 road. Mijas Golf can then be found after just a few minutes on your right-hand side.

From Malaga and Airport – Take the A7 road along the coast. You will then pass Las Lagunas.

Just after Las Lagunas, you will need to take the Fuengirola/Coin turn off N208B and head inland via the MA7053 road towards the mountains towards Entrerríos/Alhaurín.

After a few minutes, you will see Mijas Golf on your right. Look for signs for ‘Hotel Byblos’.

From Benalmadena Costa – Follow the N340 coast road until you reach the Fuengirola/Coin turn off on your right. Turn right and take the MA7053 inland towards the mountains.

After a few minutes, you will see Mijas Golf on your right.
