Key Features
Los Naranjos is an 18-hole par 72 Parkland golf course that has generous fairways and strategically placed bunkers and water hazards. The course is 6,564 metres in length and the greens are spacious and slightly undulated. The tees are long and have four markers: red, yellow, white, and black with course lengths starting from 5,054 metres and reaching 6,564 metres at their longest.
In the mid-70s, Robert Trent Jones designed the second group of courses on the Coast, including Mijas, Valderrama, and Los Naranjos. Commissioned by the Banus company, he created the Los Naranjos golf course in Nueva Andalucía with 70 hectares of ideal golfing terrain, featuring wide fairways and large greens. Opened in 1977 alongside Las Brisas, it was designed as a championship course suitable for international tournaments yet enjoyable for all players. In 1982, the Romero-Sauer group acquired both courses, making Las Brisas private and keeping Los Naranjos as a pay-and-play course. The Clubhouse was built in 1989, and the course was later sold to Swedish businessman Percy Nilsson.
Since its opening Los Naranjos has been the host of several major competitions, including the Spanish Open, and is ranked one of the best golf courses in Spain. In 2005 and again in 2008, Los Naranjos was voted Course of the Year on the Costa del Sol.
Los Naranjos is a classic Robert Trent Jones Sr. design with wide fairways, strategically placed bunkers and water hazards, and large, undulated greens. A special Trent Jones Sr. trademark: the long runway tees that make it possible to set up the course differently from day to day. The Los Naranjos greens are firm and fast; they feature A4 Agrostis bentgrass. The fairways and tees are Bermuda 328, an ideal surface for the warm climate. In the winter it is over-seeded with Poa Trivialis.
The heart of the club is the clubhouse which has spectacular views of one of the best golf courses in Spain.
