Golf 4 U Spain Rating:
Key Features
One of two courses at The San Roque Golf Club and designed by Perry Dye and Seve Ballesteros, the San Roque New Course is undulating, precise and often dramatic with a grand-scale parkland layout.
The San Roque New Course measures 6,497 meters and is a Par 72, with generally large greens that are often protected by spectacular mounds, and some sharply focused nests of bunkers.
This course is a serious challenge, even before your short game is tested, which it certainly will be.
After a demanding start, you may wish to avoid Seve’s own tee for a spectacular downhill par 3 fourth hole, across a chasm. A penalty awaits anything short or left.
Home to the 2006 Spanish Open, the course sits in an elevated position with several deep grassy expanses. Although this means the course is exposed to the wind, it does, however, offer stunning views over the Mediterranean, Gibraltar and Sotogrande.
Located in a gated community, The San Roque Golf Club is a country club that is just 10 minutes from the village of San Roque, with its steep narrow streets, whitewashed houses, museums, churches and wonderful local bars and restaurants.
Gibraltar is also only 30 minutes away by car, and Malaga – Costa del Sol Airport an hour.
Dress Code – All visitors must be suitably dressed at all times. Anyone dressed incorrectly will be asked to change or leave the club.
Handicaps – Maximum handicap for men is 28 and ladies is 36. Marshalls have the right to direct players to play forward tees if deemed to be holding up play. Players who have a high handicap will be allowed to play, subject to availability, and at a time that doesn’t intrude on other players.
All players must show their handicap certificate when arriving at the club.
Marshalls have the right to direct players to play forward tees if deemed to be holding up play. If a player holds up the pace of play and refuses to let faster players through, they may be asked to leave the course.
Starting Times – These are at 10-minute intervals. Flights are made up as 4 balls; therefore players booking 2 or 3 balls must expect to be paired up with another group in busy periods.
Mobile Phones – The use of mobile phones is not allowed on the golf course, or inside the Clubhouse. Members and their guests are requested to leave the Clubhouse in order to make or receive phone calls. All mobile phones will have to be turned to silent mode when arriving at the club.
