Buenavista Golf

Located on the rugged northwestern tip of Tenerife, Buenavista Golf is one of the island’s most dramatic and rewarding courses to play. Designed by the legendary Severiano Ballesteros and inaugurated in October 2003, the par-72 layout stretches to 6,150 metres and makes full use of its spectacular coastal setting, where the Atlantic Ocean and the towering mountains of the Teno Massif provide a stunning natural backdrop at almost every turn.

Seve’s signature is evident throughout the design – the course is generous enough off the tee in places to invite attacking play, but demands precision approaching the greens, many of which are cleverly protected by contour and natural obstacles. Several holes run close enough to the clifftops that the sensation of driving the ball out over the ocean is very real, and the prevailing wind off the Atlantic adds an extra dimension to club selection throughout the round.

Buenavista is located away from the main southern tourist areas, which adds a sense of exclusivity and escape. The drive to the course through the island’s north – past banana plantations, historic villages and volcanic scenery – is very much part of the experience.

History

Buenavista Golf was developed in the early 2000s as part of an effort to bring world-class golf infrastructure to the less-developed northwest of Tenerife. The project attracted one of the biggest names in the sport, with Seve Ballesteros appointed as the designer – a major coup that reflected the ambition of the development.

Seve spoke of his pride in the project, and the course reflects his deep understanding of the game and what makes a hole both challenging and enjoyable. Since opening in 2003, Buenavista has attracted golfers who seek something beyond the well-trodden southern Tenerife golf circuit, offering a markedly different atmosphere and landscape to courses in the south of the island.
