Golf 4 U Spain Rating:
Key Features
Nestled just 25 km from the heart of Lisbon, the Aroeira I and 2 golf courses are enveloped by a protected pine forest near the enchanting beaches of Costa da Caparica.
Benefiting from the unique micro-climate of Herdade da Aroeira, golf enthusiasts can indulge in their passion year-round, encountering a challenge suited to players of every skill level.
Aroeira I: The fairways of Aroeira 1 course meander through either dense pine trees or open expanses. The opening hole stretches 485 metres, presenting a challenging Par 5 that requires a precise shot to clear a lake from the tee.
Among the notable features of the course, the eleventh and fourteenth holes stand out, offering unique challenges and strategic play opportunities.
Aroeira 2: Aroeira 2 boasts an architectural design that offers golfers a different playing experience, characterised by expansive, fast greens. The flat terrain of the course makes for challenging fairways, cleverly dotted with strategically positioned bunkers, reminiscent of the traditional Scottish pot style.
The course also features five picturesque lakes, ensuring water hazards are a notable aspect of the challenge. With five tee levels available on each hole, golfers can tailor their game based on their skill level, adding an element of choice and personalization to the experience.
Built in 1973, the esteemed Aroeira I championship course, comprising 18 holes, bears the signature of architect Frank Pennick. Recognised by experts as one of Europe’s premier courses, it proudly secures a spot on Golf World magazine’s prestigious “Top 100 European courses” list, much like its counterpart, the Aroeira II field.
The course has hosted esteemed events, including the Open de Portugal in 1996 and 1997, various Ladies Opens, the Amateur Championship Gentleman & Ladies in 2010 and 2011, and most recently, the European Men Clubs Trophy in 2013. Such accolades affirm its status as a golfing gem with a rich history.
Unveiled in April 2000, Aroeira 2 showcases the visionary design of architect Donald Steel. Meticulously crafted to adhere to the European Tour’s stringent standards and accommodate future high-profile competitions, this course features 18 expansive greens that meander alongside five vast lakes. The strategically positioned tees in each hole cater to players of diverse skill levels, ensuring an inclusive playing experience.
Over the years, Aroeira 2 has served as the host venue for the Qualifying School of the Ladies European Tour and numerous editions of the Portuguese Ladies Opens, cementing its reputation as a sought-after destination for premier golfing events.
The clubhouse is the hub of the courses where everyone meets to catch up with friends and family, either before or after hitting the fairways.
Home to the golf shop, snack-bar, bar, and restaurant, the clubhouse offers a warm welcome to everyone.
