Golf Course Information

The 18 hole, Atalaya Old course is one of two golf courses at the Atalaya Golf and Country Club which is located in the popular upmarket resort of Marbella.

Opened to the public in 1986, the course was designed by Bernard von Limburger, who is one of Germany’s leading golf course architects.

Considered to be one of the finest courses on the coast, the Old Course is defined by its wide generous fairways that undulate gently between flowering shrubs and mature trees.

Club selection is also made interesting on this course due to the frequently elevated greens and subtle contours that need careful judgement to sink those all important putts.

The course also allows you to take in the magnificent views of the Mediterranean sea, La Concha mountain and the lakes and streams that are home to many water birds.

A welcoming cafe greets you at the beginning of your round and at the 13th hole you will find the Atalaya Golf Academy that offers a range of practice facilities and a small café offering drinks and snacks for you to enjoy while you are practicing.

There is plenty to do when not on the golf course with the upmarket town of Marbella and its shops, bars, nightclubs and stunning beaches only 18 minutes away. The popular smaller bustling resort of La Cala de Mijas is 30 minutes away and Malaga International Airport is just 45 minutes away by car.

Atalaya Golf Club Dress Code

The club does have a dress code that you are asked to adhere to. The following list is what is acceptable and not acceptable for you to wear.

Acceptable –

Men’s shirts must have collar and sleeves
Tailored Shorts or long trousers
Recognised Golf shoes

Not acceptable –

Football and rugby shirts, t-shirts and tracksuits
Jeans, sports shorts, cargo shorts/ trousers
Trainers, running shoes and flip-flops

Pro-Shop

The Pro-Shop offers a wide range of well-known brands, many of which include the club’s logo, giving you a chance to take home a memento of your day at Atalaya.

The pro-shop staff are very welcoming and are available to pass on their professional knowledge should you need help when purchasing your golf equipment.

Restaurant/Clubhouse

The Clubhouse with its large terrace that offers panoramic views of the golf course is home to the Ventanas de Atalaya Restaurant and Bar, which offers an extensive menu and wine list, as well as bar snacks.

Once you have finished your round take advantage of the sun on the terrace and enjoy a drink and a bite to eat or cool down in the light and airy bar and restaurant. In the cooler months, the open fireplace is the perfect place to warm up and enjoy a post-round refreshment.

Atalaya Golf Academy

The aptly named ”Enjoy Golf” Golf Academy is located adjacent to the 13th fairway, which is approximately a kilometre away from the clubhouse.

It has a full-length driving range that has both natural grass bays and covered synthetic grass bays. There is also a practice green and a chipping area that provides different lies and two practice bunkers.

Practice balls can be purchased from the coin-operated dispenser and for the more frequent visitors, a prepaid key is available to buy at a discount and gives convenience.

Coaching is available for both groups and individuals and you can also choose to include video lessons in the well-equipped golf studio.

Ample free parking is also available.

Handicaps

There is a maximum handicap policy at the Golf Club, which on the Old Course is 28 for men and 36 for ladies.
**Please note that handicap certificates are required and will be requested when registering at the reception desk.
