Key Features
Located within the Bay of Lagos, the Palmares course was designed by renowned golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr.
The course is somewhat unique in the region for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the course features three 9-hole golf courses (Alvor, Lagos, and Praia) which are linked to create 27 holes. This means you can pick any combination of the three courses to form your 18-hole round.
Secondly, the Palmares course combines parkland and genuine links elements, offering a distinctive experience in the Algarve region. Elevated sections provide breathtaking views of the ocean and Alvor estuary, creating unforgettable moments. As you descend towards the beach, the lower holes seamlessly blend with links dunes and tall grasses, accompanied by the soothing sound of the sea.
Famous golf course architect Robert Trent Jones Jr designed the course which originally opened in October 2010.
The course initially offered 18 holes of spectacular golf, however, in June 2011 a further 9 holes were added providing the opportunity to play a combination of the three 9 hole courses to make up your round of 18.
The original Palmares course was designed by Frank Pennink back in the 1970s and was one of the first golf courses to be built in the region.
Palmares Golf has earned its reputation, recently ranked as the 26th golf course in Continental Europe. Moreover, it has held the prestigious title of the best golf course in Portugal for seven consecutive years.
Crafted by the esteemed RCR Architects, recipients of the renowned Pritzker Architecture Award, the remarkable new Clubhouse stands as a testament to architectural excellence. Offering state-of-the-art facilities, it boasts a breathtaking panoramic vista encompassing the Alvor Estuary, the Meia Praia beach, and Ponta da Piedade.
Within the Clubhouse, guests will discover the exquisite Michelin-star Al Sud Restaurant, helmed by acclaimed chef Louis Anjos, promising an unparalleled fine-dining experience.
